What is Aquatic Therapy?
Aquatic therapy, also known as aqua therapy and hydrotherapy, is a type of active rehabilitation treatment performed in a swimming pool for relaxation, fitness, physical therapy and other therapeutic benefits. Aquatic therapy takes advantage of waters buoyancy and resistance. When you are submerged in water, its buoyancy supports your weight and its resistance helps you exercise without the load and force of a land-based rehabilitation treatments and exercises. Many our clients benefit from aquatic therapy, such as injured athletes, seniors with arthritis, individuals recovering from strokes, pre/post major surgery and those who have mobility issues. Water buoyancy can eliminate 30-99% of a person’s body weight, which provides an excellent way to reduce the pressure on the joints to help with rehabilitation.
